Before I start this page of further views of the USA, I should apologize to any that I might offend. These are my own personal views of the USA, or that part of the USA that I have known in the year that I have been living in America.
The following items, are things I really miss, and have to get sent to me or brought over by visiting friends and family, so please take note if moving to the USA, or visiting somebody
FOOD I MISS
Brown Sauce.. There is form of dark brown Steak Sauce, but this is nothing like the real thing and bottle of HP or some such are much missed
Marmite.. The staple food of many a person, much missed, I would even try Vegimite, but I can't get that either
Cadburys.. Give me chocolate, real chocolate, keep your Hershy's. Chocolate was made into it's present "food of the gods" form by the Cadbury Brothers and Nestle. It works out that the average intake per American of chocolate is 3 bars a day, yet still they are only just getting to grips with the smooth delights of Cadburys Chocolate. You can at last get some forms of it at most major supermarkets.
Lucazaid.. A part from the normal Coke, Pepsi etc, the only for of soft drink that might help to recover from anything is GATORADE or else a V8 tomato based drink. I have seen Lucazaid in some special foreign shelves in Super Markets, though the colour seemed rather pale, and it cost around #1.50, it was bliss
Mince Sauce.. Steak, Steak, ribs and Steak. How I miss my lamb and mince sauce, there is really nothing to compare. Lamb here is OK though is the most expensive meat by far here, but mince sauce is a very rare sighting
Colmans.. A part from the world famous English Mustard, there is hardly anything here that can compare with any form of mustard. Give my Colmans anything, Horse Radish, Tartar Sauce, Mince Sauce. When it comes to dry sauce mix's, and options available Colmans is without compare, and they do not cost much to post.
Flavored Crisps.. Firstly they are called chips here, what we call Chips are French Fries. The amount and variety of flavors here is very limited. There are plane, various cheese/chives and a couple of BBQ flavored packages. One brand dose produce a form of Salt and Vinegar but not much else. Mainly it's Deritoes or some sort of puffed up orange coloured crisp. Oh for the choice and flavors of Golden Wonder or Smiths.
Tea that is worth drinking
And Ohhh! Ohhhhhh! for a descent CURRY
NEVER MIND THE BIG APPLE, IT'S ONE HUGE CHEESE
They call the folk WISCONSIN cheese heads, and you can purchase actual wedge shape cheeses to ware on your head. But the whole love of cheese in the USA seems to go a lot further than that. Go to any restaurant, snack bar or any food outlet of any sort and order a meal it will come with CHEESE. Now this is fine for those who like the mouse bait, but myself, I think it is just that mouse food. Sure I have the Big Mac or Lasania but in the US cheese is almost the staple diet. I have been to several italian restaurants and carefully picked out meals that on the menu do not mention cheese which is a rare thing, only for them to arrive covered in the stuff. If like me you are not a cheese fanatic, make sure you ask for any meal WITHOUT CHEESE.
